Model Description

The IWC Ingenieur Chronograph (reference IW380802) merges modern craftsmanship with vintage design influences, representing the contemporary evolution of the iconic Ingenieur line.

Its 42.3mm stainless steel case, paired with a robust steel bracelet, recalls the design of the Ingenieur models from the late '60s and early '70s. Despite this nostalgic nod, the watch is packed with contemporary features, including a sapphire crystal on both sides, 120 meters of water resistance, and a striking blue sunburst dial. The dial's bold blue tone shifts under different lighting and the Super Luminova-coated hands ensure readability even in low light.

Powered by the IWC in-house calibre 69375, the self-winding chronograph movement is visible through the transparent case back. This movement, featuring a 46-hour power reserve, is reliable and refined, offering a tri-compax chronograph layout and a date display. The movement's integration of IWC's bidirectional pawl-winding system underscores the brand's commitment to precision engineering.

This watch blends heritage, technical excellence, and modern appeal, making it an ideal choice for those seeking a versatile sports chronograph.

The History

Ingenieur for Engineer

The IWC Ingenieur collection has its roots in technical innovation and precision engineering. Introduced in 1955 with Reference 666, the first Ingenieur was designed for professionals working in magnetic environments, offering advanced anti-magnetic protection, water resistance, and IWC's pioneering Pellaton winding system. In 1976, renowned Swiss designer Gérald Genta transformed the Ingenieur with the SL model, featuring a bold, five-hole bezel. Though initially divisive, it became an iconic design. Modern Ingenieur models, like the Chronograph Classic, pay homage to the original 1950s and 60s designs, blending heritage with contemporary craftsmanship.

The Movement

69375 Calibre

The IWC 69375 calibre is a finely crafted chronograph movement, operating at a frequency of 28,800 VPH (4.0 Hz) and comprising 227 components, including 33 jewels. It features precise column wheel control, an oscillating pinion, and IWC's dual-pawl winding system, delivering accurate timekeeping and reliable performance. The movement has a 46-hour power reserve, and its decoration includes Côtes de Genève on the bridges and circular graining on other surfaces, visible through a transparent sapphire case back. The skeletonized rotor is engraved with "Probus Scafusia," underscoring IWC's commitment to craftsmanship.
