The Tradition

Abraham Louis Breguet

The Breguet Tradition collection pays homage to the brand's origins and Abraham-Louis Breguet's innovative 1790s "Souscription" watches. These pocket watches, featuring a straightforward and symmetrical movement with a central barrel, were easily repairable and accessible through an upfront reservation model. Modern Tradition pieces embody these principles while showcasing advanced horology. With open-worked dials and hand-finished components, they merge historical craftsmanship with contemporary aesthetics, reinforcing Breguet's dedication to enduring elegance and forward-looking design.

The Movement

Pare-chute, Breguet Silicon Overcoil

Breguet conceived the Tradition collection to celebrate and display Breguet's rich tradition of pioneering in watchmaking and emphasising the more technical aspects of the brand's history. Breguet's 1790 pare-chute system was a groundbreaking anti-shock mechanism, protecting the balance wheel pivots through a conical pivot and spring structure, setting the foundation for modern shock resistance in watches. In 1795, his invention of the overcoil balance spring improved timekeeping precision by reshaping the spring to allow for a lifted, resilient outer coil that centres back over the inner coils. This design, enhancing strength and accuracy, remains fundamental in high-end watchmaking today.
